Golf Along the Cliff Coast
Lagoa's golf is a two-course story, and both belong to the Pestana group near Carvoeiro. What they share — mid-range green fees, ancient olive and carob groves framing the fairways, and a setting on the hills above the Algarve's most dramatic cliff coast — matters less than what sets them apart.
Vale da Pinta Golf is Ronald Fream's 1992 design, routed through groves so mature that one olive tree on the property has been verified at over 1,200 years old. It's positional golf — tight landing areas defined by the trees and strategic bunkering reward accuracy over power. Gramacho Golf, a Fream and Nick Price collaboration, takes a different approach with its 27-green dual system: nine holes have two entirely separate putting surfaces, rotated daily, so the course genuinely plays differently from one round to the next.
Both courses sit at €€ green fees — honest mid-range golf with more character than the resort complexes further east around Vilamoura. For golfers staying in Carvoeiro or nearby, playing both on consecutive days is the obvious move.
