Golf with Eastern Charm
Tavira's golf offering centres on Benamor Golf, a mature parkland course set on gently rolling terrain with views stretching to the Ria Formosa lagoon and the sea beyond. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, the course weaves through carob and almond trees — a distinctly Algarvian setting that feels unhurried compared to the busier complexes around Vilamoura.
A short drive east, Quinta da Ria offers a different challenge — a links-inspired layout exposed to coastal breezes, bordering the Ria Formosa natural park. Flamingos and wading birds are regular companions on the back nine. Its sister course, Quinta de Cima, shares the same facilities for those wanting to play both.
Combined with Tavira's exceptional restaurants and historic architecture, the eastern Algarve is an underrated golf destination — fewer crowds, lower green fees, and courses with genuine character.
